Review: Super Bowl XLVI

Wow– what a Super Bowl!

The game was held in my childhood stomping ground of Indianapolis, IN for the first time ever.

The NY Giants (including Eli Manning) and the Patriots (including Tom Brady) were playing.

Madonna perferformed the half-time show in what my 20 year old son called, ”the best Super Bowl performance of my lifetime”.

And, if watching it at home—their were very cute and hilarious comercials featuring the Coke polar bears and doritos.

There was a dramatic start and a dramatic finish and a LOT of good footage in between (won’t give away the details in case some of you have it recorded and have yet to watch it).

While watching—we ate chili, wings, meatballs, and chips with taco dip.

Super Bowl XLVI (46) just might go down as my favorite Super Bowl ever!!

Saving Money: Hamburger/ Ground Beef

People often say money can’t be saved on ground beef/hamburger.

However, I absolutely refuse to spend more than $2/lb and often get it closer to $1.50/lb.

So, how do I do it?

1. Only buy hamburger when it is on sale. Buy enough to last you until the next sale and freeze it.

2. Buy the cheapest version of hamburger. The only difference between the 97/3 and the 90/10 is fat content. Little secret: brown your hamburger–pour in a strainer, and run hot water over it–the result—all excess fat is gone……tastier meat that is healthier for you!

3. Pay attention to the dates on the packages in your store’s meat department. When the date comes and it is not sold—grocery stores mark it WAY down to clear it out, rather than trash it. And, if you buy it that day—it will still be good for days in the fridge or put it in the freezer right away for later use.

4. If hamburger is running high for awhile and your freezer has none—use shredded chicken.
